Perimeter Medical Imaging AI’s (TSX-V: PINK; OTCQX: PYNKF) Claire OCT has received a special mention in TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026, earning national recognition for its approach to helping surgeons identify difficult-to-see, potentially cancerous tissue during surgery. Additional industry recognitions include a TAG Award, Gold and Best of Category honors in the Globee Awards for Innovation, and finalist selections in the 2026 Fierce Life Sciences Innovation Awards and D CEO’s 2027 Innovation Awards.
In a statement, Adrian Mendes, CEO of Perimeter, commented, “These honors recognize the work our team and clinical partners have put into bringing real-time, AI-enabled imaging into breast cancer surgery, with the goal of reducing the need for repeat operations and giving patients the best chance at recovery. Cancer can be difficult to see during an operation, and finding it at the tissue margins afterward can mean another surgery for the patient. Our focus is on bringing Claire to more hospitals, so surgeons have additional information to guide critical decisions in real time during the initial procedure.”
The recognition follows a milestone year for Claire. In 2026, Claire received FDA premarket approval and moved into clinical practice, with Intermountain Health becoming the first health system in the U.S. to commercially deploy the device.
Recent recognitions announced for Perimeter and Claire include:
- TIME Best Inventions of 2026, Special Mention. Claire was named among a select group of special mentions on TIME’s annual Best Inventions list, which recognizes products, software and services that TIME editors evaluate on originality, efficacy, ambition and impact. Claire was included on the Healthcare and Medical list for life-saving innovations in medical treatment and patient care.
- Fierce Life Sciences Innovation Awards, Finalist. Claire was named a finalist in the Medical Device Innovation category of the 2026 Fierce Life Sciences Innovation Awards. Presented by the publishers of Fierce Biotech and Fierce Pharma, the program highlights innovation that is driving improvement across the life sciences industry, and the Medical Device Innovation category honors devices advancing diagnostics, therapy delivery, or real-time monitoring.
- TAG Award for Medical Devices, Real-Time Surgical Intelligence. Perimeter won the TAG Award in the Real-Time Surgical Intelligence category for advancing intraoperative decision-making in cancer surgery. The TAG Awards for MedTech, Life Sciences, and BioTech recognize companies whose solutions show strong design, real-world relevance, market value, and the ability to improve outcomes across health care.
- Globee Awards for Innovation (Golden Bridge Awards), Gold and Best of Category: Perimeter received a Gold Globee Award and Best of Category honors in the Achievement in HealthTech Innovation category. The program recognizes achievements in innovation, product and service advancement, artificial intelligence and technology implementation across industries worldwide.
- D CEO 2027 Innovation Awards, Finalist. Perimeter was named a finalist in the Innovation in Healthcare and Biotech category of D CEO’s 2027 Innovation Awards, which honor companies and leaders shaping North Texas as a hub for innovation. Winners will be announced in January 2027.
Claire is the only FDA-approved imaging device that uses AI during breast cancer surgery to help surgeons see microscopic tissue structures—where cancer can be difficult to detect—in real time, for margin assessment.
Surgeons performing breast-conserving surgery have long faced a difficult challenge: remove too little tissue and risk leaving undetected cancer behind, or remove too much and potentially affect cosmetic results. Claire addresses that challenge through real-time visualization of tissue suspicious for disease, with AI identifying areas of concern in the operating room to help surgeons make more informed decisions while the patient is still in surgery.
In an August press release announcing the first health system commercial deployment of Claire, Dr. Teresa Reading, a breast surgeon at Intermountain Health LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, stated, “Every breast surgeon wants to give their patient the best possible chance of completing treatment in a single surgery, but microscopic cancer can be difficult to identify in the operating room. Claire was incredibly simple to incorporate into my workflow. The AI quickly directed my attention to specific areas of concern, giving me an additional set of trained eyes and more information to guide my decisions during these procedures.”
Claire builds on Perimeter’s legacy S-Series OCT platform, which was cleared by the FDA for general tissue imaging and uses optical coherence tomography, a light-based imaging technology used in ophthalmology and cardiology. The wide field OCT provides real-time, cellular-level visualization of tissue, while the AI available in Claire sifts through the images generated during surgery to flag areas of concern.
