Profound Medical (NASDAQ:PROF; TSX:PRN) and TrillaMed, a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Business (SDVOSB), have announced a partnership to support the federal deployment of TULSA-PRO—the MRI-guided, incision-free prostate tissue ablation system—to bring precision, non-invasive prostate cancer treatment options to Veterans and active-duty service members across the U.S.

In a statement, Frank Campanaro, CEO of TrillaMed, said, “We’re honoured to partner with Profound Medical to deliver technology that not only changes the standard of care for prostate cancer, but also dramatically improves the quality of life for Veterans. This is personal for us. We’re in the foxhole with our fellow service members—and this partnership puts us at the forefront of bringing cutting-edge solutions to those who deserve it most.”

Tom Tamberrino, CCO of Profound, commented, “We already know from the feed back that we have received, when provided with information about their options, prostate cancer patients choose TULSA every time as their first treatment of choice. We can’t think of a group more deserving of being afforded that treatment option than our Veterans, and are proud to partner with TrillaMed to make that happen.”

The TULSA procedure, performed using the FDA-cleared TULSA-PRO system, has the potential of becoming a mainstream treatment modality across the entire prostate disease spectrum; ranging from low-, intermediate-, or high-risk prostate cancer; to hybrid patients suffering from both prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); to men with BPH only; and also, to patients requiring salvage therapy for radio-recurrent localized prostate cancer. TULSA employs real-time MR guidance for precision to preserve patients’ urinary continence and sexual function, while killing the targeted prostate tissue via precise sound absorption technology that gently heats it to 55-57°C. TULSA is an incision- and radiation-free “one-and-done” procedure performed in a single session that takes a few hours. Virtually all prostate shapes and sizes can be safely, effectively, and efficiently treated with TULSA. There is no bleeding associated with the procedure; no hospital stay is required; and most TULSA patients report quick recovery to their normal routine.
