The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued a Notice of Allowance for closely held Blue Spark Technologies’ patent application referred to as, “body temperature logging patch,” or its brand name, TempTraq.
The wearable, Bluetooth temperature monitor continuously senses, records and sends body temperature for up to 24 or 48 hours to a mobile device through its free downloadable app. A 72-hour version is being tested in leading hospitals as a way to monitor patient body temperatures and detect fevers faster.
“Our FDA-cleared device experienced huge success and traction with the consumer market in recent years,” Matt Ream, EVP of Marketing and Innovation, and co-inventor of TempTraq, said in a statement.
“With this patent, we are ready to deliver a new standard of care to the health care industry by offering a reliable, non-invasive, continuous way to monitor body temperature.”
The TempTraq system is scalable and can support a single hospital or a multi-hospital/physician group healthcare system. Also, through TempTraq Connect, a secure, HIPAA-compliant service supported by the Google Healthcare Cloud Platform, the patch may be integrated directly with hospital central monitoring systems and electronic health records to safely and securely store patient health care data.
