Closely held Interface Biologics of Toronto has signed an evaluation and exclusive license option agre
ement with Germany’s Fresenius Medical Care (FSE:FME; NYSE:FMS), the world’s largest provider of dialysis products and services.
Under the accord, Fresenius will evaluate the use and efficacy of Interface’s Endexo technology to various components of its dialysis circuits for treating end-stage renal disease, including dialyzers and blood lines. The evaluation is expected to be completed by early next year.
Fresenius can then exercise an option to obtain an exclusive, worldwide license to incorporate the Endexo technology in dialysis circuits used for the treatment of chronic kidney disease patients in all patient care settings.
“We have been impressed with what we have seen of the Endexo technology to date,” Conor Curtin, senior VP of R&D for Fresenius North America, said in a statement. “We believe that the Endexo technology may further improve the biocompatibility of our products, leading to additional medical benefits.”
Interface CEO Tom Reeves said a commercial agreement with the leading player in the dialysis market “further underscores the capability and viability of the IBI biomedical polymer technology in general and our Endexo product platform in particular.”
