Montreal-based Theratechnologies (TSX:TH) presented additional data about its lead tesamorelin drug to treat excess abdominal fat in HIV patients with lipodystrophy at an HIV conference in Philadelphia.
In a statement, the company said results indicated that after 26 weeks of treatment the 543 patients treated with 2 mille-grams daily of tesamorelin reported “clinically relevant improvements in belly appearance distress, as well as in belly and weight image while maintaining health-related quality of life, with no increases in symptom incidence and distress.”
In addition, the decrease in visceral adipose tissue in tesamorelin-treated patients was correlated with “various improvements in patient-reported outcome parameters,” it added.
The data are part of the new drug application submitted to the FDA last May and a decision is expected in the spring.
